Have you been thinking about learning to crochet, but not sure where to start? You walk to the yarn aisle of your favorite craft store and leave feeling super overwhelmed at all the options. Or maybe you’re broke and can’t justify spending money on different yarns and special tools when crochet might not end up being your thing. That’s why I put this post together to show you that all you need to learn if crochet is the craft for you is $5 or less.

Crochet Supplies
– Yarn // Yarn comes in multiple weights and fibers. When starting out, I highly recommend the cheapest medium, worsted weight yarn you can get your hands on.
– Crochet Hook // Crochet hooks are made in all different sizes and materials. I recommend aluminum hooks, because they tend to be the cheapest options, but regardless of material you’ll want to make sure the hook size corresponds with the yarn you’ve chosen.
– Scissors // You don’t need anything fancy. Whatever scissors you already have at home will work perfectly fine. I use fingernail clippers instead of scissors more often than I’d care to admit.

Tips for Learning to Crochet
1. Learn one thing at a time and do that one thing over and over and over until you feel comfortable with it. Grab your yarn and chain stitch until you run out of yarn, then rip it all out and start over again. Once you feel comfortable with your chain stitch, chain 20, single crochet in second chain from hook and all the way across your chain, turn, chain 1, SC across again, row after row until you’ve got it down.
2. Watch someone else crochet on YouTube while you crochet the same thing. Pay attention to their hands, how they hold their yarn, how they insert their hook.
3. This tip contradicts my last point, but do what feels comfortable for you. Don’t hold your yarn a certain way because that’s how so and so holds their yarn. If it doesn’t feel right, mix it up.
4. Take your time and have fun!
